The GoPro Mountain Games began as a local whitewater event in 2002. Over two decades, it has evolved into a premier mountain experience celebrated worldwide. Each June, Vail, Colorado, transforms into a vibrant hub for the GoPro Mountain Games, a four-day extravaganza that unites athletes, artists, musicians, and outdoor enthusiasts.
The Games are about honoring the human spirit and the drive for adventure. They embody a celebration of sports and competition while fostering kindness, family connections, creativity, and the joy dogs bring to our lives. The Games also emphasize the importance of our environment and the majestic beauty of the mountains.
Annually, thousands of professional and amateur adventure athletes gather in Vail’s breathtaking mountains and rivers to compete in 11 diverse sport disciplines and over 30 competitions. Participants can engage in kayaking, running, slacklining, DockDogs, rafting, stand-up paddleboarding, mountain cycling, road cycling, climbing, fishing, disc golf, and more. With a total cash prize purse exceeding $135,000 awarded each year, the event is open to everyone—both seasoned pros and enthusiastic amateurs of all ages and abilities. And for those who prefer not to compete, the Festival environment offers a wealth of experiences for everyone to enjoy.
But competition is just the beginning. The GoPro Mountain Games showcase a variety of artistic expressions, featuring the CoLab Creator Stage and over 100 sponsor activations. Music is a cornerstone of the festival, highlighted by the Mountains of Music concert series. This series provides free live performances on multiple temporary stages daily, culminating in larger ticketed concerts at the beautiful Gerald Ford Amphitheater on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.
The Mountain Games are operated by the non-profit Vail Valley Foundation, which is dedicated to enhancing the community through leadership in arts, athletics, and education. The Foundation is committed to addressing community needs and ensuring that our Valley remains a wonderful place to live, work, and visit.
